tai chi

Tai Chi most of you have heard of it
its a ancient art from china
there are thousands of tai chi schools
and clubs across the globe and you wont
have to search to hard to find one should
you wish to,
western medicine is increasingly recognising
the health benefits of tai chi . and many doctors
now recommend it to there patients for a number
of conditions, rangeing from stress related
conditions ,joint and posture problems ,balance,
and blood pressure,
its slow gently movements are ideal for all ages
and few if any injurys are caused through the form
[the sequennce of moves],its a exellent exercise
for older people for these reason alone,
its some times refered to as moving meditation
and requires great concentration ,developes boby
awareness and coordination and balance, its truely
a anceint treasure,
tha chi is how ever a martial art of high regard
in china although few practice it for that reason
today and few practitioners have the skill or
knowledge
to use it defenceivly most practice solely for the
health benafits and concern them selfs solely with
the soft side of the art,
those who wish to study it for combat need to also
understand the hard side, and finding a compertent
teacher wont be as easy,
here i would like to stress that language is sometimes
used to deceive sometimes deliberatly no in fact almost
always deliberatly, the chinese use the term sifu which
translates to english as master, and we in the west
have this mental image of a kung fu master ,ie
a highly skilled and knowlegdeable martial artist,
capable of both useing and passing on the skill,
but in english it has a broader meaning head master,
maths master,it means teacher the term is not
used as widely to day as it was when i was at school
but even at primaey school the term was head master,
now many schools use the therm head teacher ,head
of department ect ,the term in english does not
reflect the level of conpatence but the position
held, so be aware when looking for a tai chi teacher
just because the call then self a master its not
nessersarly true in the sense that they have mastered
the art .they can use the title legitamately from
a english language point in that they are teaching
and they are the head teacher in there club or
school ,
but calling your self a master is good for business,
